Let’s jump straight into the 7 bio psychographics and write your Instagram bio as per the one that suits your niche, your business and your vibe, the best.
NOTE: You can have more than 1 bio psychographic, so try to find a balance in the structure.
1. THE UNDERDOG BUSINESS PERSON
“I know a little more than you, and I'm figuring this shit out with you.”
This is the one you already identified.
Their psychology
Early-stage
Little/no social proof
Doesn't want to pretend to be an authority
Knows their niche reasonably well
Personality is a major differentiator
Wants people to like them + trust their thinking
Bio structure
LINE 1: WHAT I DO
Simple, painfully clear description of the thing they help with.
LINE 2: PERSONALITY
A casual explanation of how they approach it.
LINE 3: IDENTITY / OPINION
Nickname, worldview, unusual belief, or recurring personality device.
LINE 4: CTA / SEED
Low-friction action + possibly a seed for an upcoming product.
Formula
What I do → How I do it → Who I am → Come hang out / start here
This is essentially the “slightly-more-informed friend” archetype.
2. THE ESTABLISHED B2B BUSINESS
“We are a serious business. Here's why you should take us seriously.”
This is very different.
Their Instagram isn't necessarily the primary sales mechanism. It's often a trust-verification layer.
Someone might hear about the company elsewhere, Google them, land on Instagram and think:
“Okay, are these guys actually legit?”
Their psychology
Established business
Multiple clients
Tangible track record
Longer sales cycle
Higher-ticket transaction
Decision-maker may be evaluating them
Personality matters, but credibility comes first
Bio structure
LINE 1: WHAT WE DO
Extremely clear category/product/service.
LINE 2: WHO WE SERVE / WHAT WE SPECIALIZE IN
Immediately tells the visitor whether they're the right customer.
LINE 3: PROOF
Businesses served, years operating, locations, projects, brands worked with, certifications, etc.
LINE 4: COMMERCIAL CTA
Book a call / enquire / request a quote / visit website.
Formula
What we do → Who we do it for → Evidence → Commercial action
Notice what's missing:
“I'm funny.”
They don't need to manufacture personality in the bio because the business itself is the personality container.
3. THE ESTABLISHED B2C BUSINESS
“Lots of people trust us, and here's why you might too.”
Here the proof mechanism changes.
A B2C company doesn't necessarily need:
“We've worked with 47 Fortune 500 companies.”
Instead, the psychologically relevant proof is:
“Thousands of people already bought / used / trusted / transformed with us.”
Their psychology
Established consumer-facing business
Larger audience
Social proof is important
Brand personality matters
Consumer needs to feel both trust + affinity
Purchase can often happen without a sales call
Bio structure
LINE 1: DESIRE / PRODUCT
What they give the consumer.
LINE 2: DIFFERENTIATOR / PERSONALITY
Why this brand feels different.
LINE 3: SOCIAL PROOF
People helped, customers served, community size, reviews, repeat customers, etc.
LINE 4: SHOP / TRY / DISCOVER CTA
Formula
What you get → Why us → Other people already trust us → Get yours
And the proof is human-scale, rather than corporate-scale.
4. THE INFLUENCER / PERSONALITY
“You don't follow me because I'm qualified. You follow me because I'm ME.”
This is probably the most personality-heavy archetype.
Their follower count itself often becomes the social proof.
They don't need to say:
“I've helped 4,000 people.”
Their audience can already see that.
Their psychology
Personality is the product
Content is primarily entertainment / lifestyle / identity
Brands may be potential customers
Community is valuable
Monetization can happen through sponsorships, products, memberships, etc.
They don't necessarily want to look “salesy”
Bio structure
LINE 1: IDENTITY
Who I am / what I'm known for.
LINE 2: PERSONALITY / WORLD
The vibe, obsession, lifestyle, joke, recurring identity.
LINE 3: COMMUNITY / CONTACT
Community, email, management contact, business enquiries.
LINE 4: CURRENT THING
Watch / join / listen / shop / latest project.
Formula
Who I am → What my world is → Where/how to reach me → Come do this
And yes — email can absolutely belong here, because the bio has a secondary audience:
fans + brands.
This is the archetype I'd add next.
“I know considerably more than you, and that's precisely why you're here.”
This person is not pretending to be the casual underdog.
Their authority is part of the value proposition.
Think:
doctor
lawyer
financial educator
scientist
consultant
specialist
researcher
technical educator
Their psychology
Expertise itself is valuable
Credentials matter
People are seeking certainty
Trust is more important than relatability
Their audience is often coming with a specific problem
Bio structure
LINE 1: EXPERTISE
What specific problem/category they specialize in.
LINE 2: CREDENTIAL / AUTHORITY
Degree, certification, role, specialization, publication, years of experience, etc.
LINE 3: PROOF / OUTCOME
Patients treated, students taught, companies advised, research published, etc., where appropriate.
LINE 4: EDUCATIONAL CTA
Book / learn / download / watch / start here.
Formula
Problem → Expertise → Evidence → Next step
Unlike Archetype #1, this person should not hide their expertise to appear relatable.
Their expertise is the reason the visitor stopped scrolling.
6. THE CREATOR-EDUCATOR / CONTENT EXPERT
This one is different from the authority.
They're not necessarily formally credentialed.
They're the person who has become known for knowing a specific internet/topic/problem extremely well.
Think:
marketing creator
fitness creator
productivity creator
finance creator
cooking educator
business educator
design creator
They may have:
“I studied this obsessively for 7 years.”
rather than:
“I have a PhD.”
Their psychology
Expertise comes from demonstrated knowledge
Content is their primary proof
They want followers AND eventual monetization
They often have frameworks/products
Personality is important
They need to balance “teacher” and “creator”
Bio structure
LINE 1: PROMISE
What will following this person help you understand/do?
LINE 2: POINT OF VIEW
What makes their teaching different?
LINE 3: PROOF
Audience size, notable results, body of work, media appearances, frameworks, etc.
LINE 4: RESOURCE / PRODUCT CTA
Formula
What you'll learn → How I see it differently → Why listen to me → Start learning here
This is more “follow me because my brain is useful” than “follow me because I'm famous.”
7. THE COMMUNITY / MOVEMENT BUILDER
This is the other archetype I'd add.
“You're not really following a person. You're joining a group of people who believe/do the same thing.”
This could be:
community founder
activist/nonprofit-style organization
membership community
professional network
niche movement
founder building a cultural identity around a problem
The important thing is that belonging is the product.
Their psychology
Identity > expertise
Community > individual authority
Shared belief is important
Members become proof
They want people to feel “these are my people.”
Bio structure
LINE 1: MOVEMENT / BELIEF
What does this group believe or exist to change?
LINE 2: WHO BELONGS HERE
Who is this for?
LINE 3: COMMUNITY PROOF
Members, chapters, events, participation, stories, etc.
LINE 4: JOIN CTA
Formula
What we believe → Who we are → How many/what we've built → Join us
And this is structurally fascinating because the CTA isn't:
BUY
It's:
BELONG.
So your 7 archetypes become:
Archetype | Primary psychological currency | Main proof |
|---|---|---|
1. Underdog Business Person | Relatability | Personality + thinking |
2. Established B2B | Credibility | Businesses / brands / track record |
3. Established B2C | Trust | Customers / people helped |
4. Influencer | Identity | Audience + personality |
5. Expert / Authority | Expertise | Credentials + outcomes |
6. Creator-Educator | Knowledge | Demonstrated expertise + body of work |
7. Community Builder | Belonging | Community + participation |
And I think there's a much deeper framework underneath all seven:
Every bio is answering four questions:
1. WHY SHOULD I CARE?
→ Promise / identity / desire
2. WHY SHOULD I BELIEVE YOU?
→ Proof / credentials / audience / experience / personality
3. WHY SHOULD I LIKE YOU?
→ Personality / worldview / aesthetics / values
4. WHAT DO I DO NOW?
→ CTA
But each archetype changes the amount of weight given to each question.
For example:
Underdog:Care ████ | Believe ██ | Like ████ | Act ██
B2B:Care ███ | Believe █████ | Like █ | Act ████
Influencer:Care ███ | Believe ███ | Like █████ | Act ██
Authority:Care ███ | Believe █████ | Like ██ | Act ███
Community builder:Care ████ | Believe ██ | Like █████ | Act ████
